INTRODUCTION

AIMS:
  • To critically assess how identity is preserved through the reuse of existing buildings.

  • To investigate how contemporary elements can be added to an existing building to facilitate its reuse and how this is approached in response to its identity.

 

 

 

 

 

  • To understand how architectural identity is created.

  • To investigate how the existing identity of a building is considered and enhanced through its reuse.

  • To understand why it is important to reuse a building.

  • To investigate the process of reusing a building and how the incorporation of contemporary elements is approached.

OBJECTIVES:

Secondary Research:

 

Secondary sources such as books, videos, websites, articles and blogs will be used to gather qualitative data. The research found will be used to reach conclusions based on the aims and objectives.

 

Primary Research:

 

Primary research will be undertaken in the form of a survey to gather qualitative and quantitative data in order to support the findings from secondary research sources. Qualitative data will provide unique opinions which could enhance perspective on this topic.

 

Visiting precedent and case studies will allow for conclusions to be formed through experiencing the genius-loci of the different environments. This will allow for more informed conclusions to be made.
