In order to successfully reuse, it is necessary for an architect or designer to understand the building and the context of the structure they intend to transform. The appreciation of the structure will influence the approach taken by the architect or designer and the overall aesthetic and functionality of the building (Brooker, 2004, p13).

 

There are several areas that may be researched, including the structure, style, context, function and history. The depth in which they delve into specific areas of the building may depend on its intended reuse.
